One would think that as anal-retentive as CAP is with maintenance these days, why is oil analysis not mandatory?

They do them every 100 hour, don't they? I'm almost positive that everytime I've seen a 100, or 50 hr oil change log entry for that matter, that it remarks that they sent out the oil analysis.

Maybe it's wing discretion, but it's good for it to be done, both for the aircrews and the airframe. You definitely have my agreement.

I know when we get a 100/50 hr they do the test.  They also cut open the oil filter and check it for debris.  I believe its policy in CAWG.  We actually had an oil test come back with metal in it.  One of our cylinders had bad metallurgy and, needed replacing.
