Title: EF Johnson hand mic issue
Post by: Jester on May 02, 2018, 05:57:38 PM
I have an EF Johnson handheld radio that will not work with the external hand mic connected. It will only transmit with the radio PTT pressed, not the mic's.

I know on the PRC-148s and 152s there was a setting you have to change to enable external audio for an external mic to work. I haven't been able to find anything like that on this radio.

I've tried two different EFJ mics in good condition (one new out of the box) with the same result.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are the contacts on the connector worn (pushed in, etc.?) I had a similar issue
and the radio needed to be replaced.

When you squeezed the connector in a certain way, it wold start working.

Sounds like a bad connector and the fact it does it with multiple mikes points towards the radio.
If it's a CAP radio turn it in for repair.
