Hey folks, older members may recall this thread about why CAP-USAF has a battle streamer for CAP's anti-submarine service: http://captalk.net/index.php?topic=4549.0  Apparently, no more comments are allowed on it, hence this thread....

As part of a trend of awarding Unit Citations to the Coast Guard Auxiliary and its members at every 5-year anniversary (it is the 85th), the Auxiliary was also recently awarded the American Campaign Streamer for World War II.  News release: https://www.mycg.uscg.mil/News/Article/3813054/coast-guard-auxiliary-celebrates-85th-anniversary/

The wording of the campaign streamer award apparently isn't available, but I am assuming that this is for actions taken by Auxiliary members in their Auxiliary roles and not for Auxiliary members that served as temporary reservists in the Coast Guard (the distinction between the two is a confusing mess in various history books and sources).

But, to bring it back around to CAP, we all know that it was the CAP Patrol Bases that were actually doing the anti-submarine work and that these were independent units not associated with Wings.  However, members from all over CAP apparently served at these bases.  And a decent case could be made that CAP members serving in their home bases were also actively taking part in the campaign in a variety of missions even if not taking (or attempting to take) direct action against the Germans.

So, I think it would be appropriate for CAP itself, and not CAP-USAF (which isn't actually CAP) to have a streamer recognizing this service (maybe its already been done and I didn't know....).

It has been awarded...back in 2020. I did the leg work on this matter and now LCDR Booth of the USCG reached out to me to help USCGAux receive their campaign streamer.

For the article about CAP's streamer, see page 54 of the Spring 2020 Volunteer

And having fielded a number of messages about the matter years back, the campaign streamer is ONLY authorized for the CAP organizational flag (ie. the flag for CAP, separate from CAP-USAF) and NOT for regions, wings, groups, or squadrons.

It has been clarified in another group that the streamer the CG Aux was awarded was for CG Aux work and not Coast Guard Temporary Reserve work.
