While this is certainly a fine gesture and a very nice thought, a quick Google about your chain letter will reveal that Walter Reed cannot accept these types of letters, and they will be destroyed or returned as "undeliverable".  For security reasons, letters and parcels must be addressed to a specific individual by name.

Hey David,

Looks like the Red Cross has stepped up to the plate.  The Red Cross has historically been known for being the neutral party delivering letters and care packages to service members in even the most difficult combat theaters. 

Walter Reed Army Medical Center's website has a recent news item posted which does reiterate that they cannot accept any mail sent to "A recovering solider" or variations thereof.  However, for those of you who would still like to honor an American hero for his or her sacrifice, it appears you can now do so.  Just mail your cards and letters care of the American Red Cross.
