USAC: COL Joseph M. Land, Sr. appointed Commander

COL Joseph M. Land, Sr., USAC, has been appointed as the Commander, U.S. Army Cadet Corps, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors with an effective date of 5 Nov 12, having relieved BG Charles R. Tornow who has medically retired after 32 years of service.

Congrats to the COL. I don't know him personally, but he seems to be dedicated to developing strong youth leaders. That's gives him a thumbs up to start in my book.

More congratulations is due to the ACC, they have gained the best commander they could hope for. Col Land will be an excellent commander that will be hard to surpass. His motivation is high, and his knowledge knows no bounds. They will be hard pressed to find another commander that can do half what he does.

Thanks guys.  I'm humbled by all of this. 

Cadetting has been a major part of my life for nearly 40 years.   I'm fortunate to have benefited from programs such as USAC, CAP, NSCC, YM, etc.   At the end of the day, no matter what color uniform or modifying insignia, the basic concepts are the same.   After all of these years, I'm still charged-up by what we do!

I've heard "Congrats or condolences" countless times in the past few weeks!   We'll see how it goes.      It's all part of taking command. 

I'm proud to have the opportunity to continue to serve.

I encountered a LTC Land at the University of Arkansas Army ROTC. You wouldn't happen to be the same one would you? This was about 6 or 8 years ago

Nah...I don't care anything about that.  If all is right in the world, a retired BG or MG will post his or her flag her and I'll go back to doing the "heavy lifting."   I'm not worried about anymore bling than I've already got!

Not me...I owned property in Casscoe, Arkansas a long time ago...but, that had nothing to do with my ties to the military.

That term has been used by our program, dating back to documents from the 1920s.   Probably a spin off of "Scouting."
