Mostly Cessna 172s and 182s, including a few new, glass equipped 182s. We also have 18 Gippsland GA-8 Airvans, which are the platform for our ARCHER Hyperspectral Imaging system. We also fly a few other airframes here and there, including Cessna 206s. CAP actually operates the largest fleet of single-engine piston aircraft in the world, over 500 aircraft.

yeah the plane is pretty great, They have modified it pretty well to act as a SAR platform.
The job is going to get more interesting for us in the next few months as the large door mod has only just been completed. We will be getting larger stores for us to dispatch and a lot more stored options for us.

Ahh yeah, im based in Cairns. Brissy has a good base down there.

I'd love to do an exchange sometime, not sure what the company would say but i think it would be great to see what other organisations do.

So what types of aircraft do you all fly/ use for sar?

I was at RAF Amberly.  Nice place.  Lived in a tent in a field while I was there.  But the chow hall was pretty sweet.  But you guys can keep that Vegemite stuff.  I thought it was some kind of cruel joke the Australians were playing on us.

However....I will say, the get together at the military recruiting station I was invited to after hours made up for it.  But there is something wrong with a country that doesnt have a Marine Corps!!!!! :o

"But there is something wrong with a country that doesnt have a Marine Corps!!!!! "

Australians are well known for having their feelings hurt easily.....well, maybe not so much.......but just in case, that one above is what Marines call "humor". You have Rugby, and so you have all the carnage you need without having a Marine corp too! Besides, if you need one, you can borrow ours. They are ready...oh yes, they are ready.....

Major Lord
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Does Australia participate in IACE?  We could all volunteer as escort officers.

Yes. It is supposedly #2 or #3 on the request list every year.
