There is one small difference with thier ICS model, (that I know of) Finance/Admin function is under Logistics, not its own section.

Out of 10 teams they only announced the top 3, we wernt 1, 2, or 3 they went to the Canadian Parks Dept, some Police Dept from Quebec and the Irish Coast Guard, all pro/paid departments, they said they would send the results and placements out after the conference, so we'll wait and see.

Overall there were 6 stations
Search Management-This was a missing person search planning, they gave us a scenario and a list of assets, maps and subject info and we had to plan the initial and future operations periods of the search.

Clue identification-visial search for misc clues, I didnt like this one, it wasnt scenario based, just walk thru the section of park and identify items that were clues, the part that sucked was there were many items there that they didnt place out (those didnt count as objects found)

Survival Skills- 3 stations for the team start a fire an boil a pot of water, build an air to ground signal and set up a shelter with a parachute

Navigation-Follow 5 headings and distance 2 seperate courses.  We kind of got boned on this one the headings they gave us were strictly grid headings, we were expected to ask if they were magnetic or grid, apparently they (the canadians) only work in grid and you convert on your own, were we usually deal in magnetic if given a course to follow.

Scene Management-Given a scenario (plane crash in our case) arrive on scene and perform all actions as you would on an actual crash.  Ours was overdue A/C unable to pin point via ELT, we had 3 victims 1 in the A/C 1 on the ground next to and a 3rd (deceased) to be found on a quick search around the crash site, secure, shut off the beacon treat the patients and coordiante for extraction by CF SAR. (we kicked butt on this one suprisingly)

SAR skills- 3 Team events written test (ok they did round robin verbal), knots, tied behind your back,  and throw water rescue heaving line and hit in or close to a target

SARSCENE

Results(?) of CAP's participation in the competition.  Doesn't say where we placed, just that we scored highly.

One thing though:  Those vests are DARN reflective in that picture!  8) 8) 8)

I REALLY hope that the individual in the zoom-bag and LEATHER JACKET is a CAPRAP or CAP-USAF type........

actually its a crappy picture...its a gray pants/polo shirt  combo with the black aviator corportate type jacket..... but after looking at it it does look like he is wearing the bag.

When was the last CAP National SAR Competition? Was there one in 1988, or did it stop at 1986?

Glad someone is getting to do it.  Back in '99 I was shot down when I put together "Rescue Challenge", a CAP SAR Competition.

I vaguely remember hearing a rumor about something like that in the works in '98 or '99...

Yeah, it was in the "Hysterical History" section >:D

I was on the ILWG Ground Team at GLR SARCOMP in '85, '86, '87, and '88. The ILWG won the '88 competition(GT got 3rd) and represented GLR at the Nationals at Whiteman AFB. The last one I know of was in 1990.
