Permission to issue grog rations?

Permission granted, Admiral, permission enthusiastically granted!

In that case Admirals, the sun has crossed over the yard arm and grog rations are being served in the wardroom.

Aww mess? :D

Isn't there a better word for the curse filter?
I was never a fan of Deuce Bigalow movie, but it grows on you I guess.

Still, there's gotta be something more creative than mess.  Like maybe [Colon Bolus]?
What about [Alabama .NET Programmer]?
Or [that's gonna itch when it dries]?
Perhaps [CAP Talk uniform thread]?

[mess], I dunno.  :)

can anyone do that or do you have to be a native of the state?

The website says you have to be a resident of the state. Would someone please explain in a nutshell what being an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy means?

The answer is best gleaned from the Nebraska Admirals website:

Well, it was fun while it lasted, anyway.

I wonder if, indeed, the spate of applications from CAPTalk members had anything to do with the Governor's decision to limit applications to those actually in Nebraska.  If so, then I apologize to the Governor and to all here who applied and didn't get their commissions -- I thought it was pretty cool and passed it along to those who hadn't received one yet.

I too offer my apologies to our adopted governor.

As ranking Admiral of CAPTalk (I got my commission first), I hereby order the mainbrace spliced, the smoking lamp lit, and the firewatch festivities to commence.  (Whatever that means.   :D)

Jack

As an away member of the CAPTalk flotilla, I hereby nominate ADM Jack to receive his fifth star and to be promoted to Fleet Admiral (FADM), Commander of the CAPTalk Flotilla Forces Command (ComCAPFlotFor). Seconds? ;)

Oops! quoted Jack again! This computer is slower than the old dial up, and for some reason (probably due to pitching and rolling about on the high seas) the server sent out a second quote. The poor sat antenna is doing some gymnastics to keep sight of the receiving satellite as well as handle a bunch of SIPR and NIPR net traffic ;D

Who are we at war with?

Very loaded question ;) I'll leave it alone for now!

BTW, Jack, was it you who posted a picture of some shoulder boards awhile back on another thread? It turns out that the shoulder boards are current uniform items for a Vice Admiral in the Navy of big red China;
also known as the Peoples Liberation Army Navy (PLA(N)).
Sure must be confusing at their Army-Navy games ;D

Are they, now?  Most interesting.  I wondered where the fellow who made them for eBay got the pattern idea.  Hm.

Anyway, if someone will endorse your proposal for my fifth star, I'll just get hold of a set of those shoulderboards (they're all over eBay too) and let that be that.

Being a former naval person myself, the thought of promotion to Admiral in any navy is a real temptation. As I have pondred a reasonable justification for such an honor, I think I have hit on a great idea. Should any of us/you manage under the new rules to swing a nomination you could try using the following as a rationale for the award:

"I upheld the honor of the Great State of Nebraska by refusing to laugh at the following joke:

Question: What does the "N" on the Nebraska football helmet stand for?

Answer: The same thing as the K on the Kansas helmet -- Knowledge."

I guess I can give up any ambition of ever being an Admiral in Nebraska's Navy.  I splurked coffee all over my monitor and keyboard.
