I may be putting on a online 5 week TLC course in January.  I am just trying to get a feel of howmany of you would be interested in attending.

I'm curious how a 5-week online TLC would work. Can you describe how you're going to run it?

EMT-83

I wasn't aware that on-line TLC had been authorized.

KatCAP

Our Wing has been doing it for years.  I was asked to help be an instructure this time around.

It works just like an online college course.  You get assignments each week and you have to answer questions online and comment of others inputs and questions.

What is a TLC course?

What is a TLC course?

Good question.  I thought I was the only one who didn't know.

winterg

TLC is Training Leaders of Cadets.  It is a course for SM's that work with cadets.

My question is if the online TLC in your Wing is recognized in other Wings?  I'm sure it isn't approved for FLWG members since we cannot use the online SLS and CLC.

I recall it now.  Ive been away from CAP for about 6-7 years.  When I did my Cadet Programs specialty track I dont think it existed.

Why can't you?   That seems counterproductive to advancing in PD.  I took SLS in residence and my CLC online without any issues.  My CLC was hosted by Wyoming and we had people as far away as Hawaii as students.

IMO your wing especially the PDO and CC should not have any issues with a member taking an online version of the course as long as the required curriculum is followed.

A minor note, but TLC is run by Cadet Programs, not PD.  Often they cooperate, but the wing DCP is responsible for administering TLC, not the PDO.

In my wing we try and run them during joint PD weekends, we'll do SLS and CLC then either UCC or TLC at the session.

FLWG requires that everyone use our blended courses for SLS and TLC. It isn't bad. We have a learning portal with online courses to complete and then a one day capstone course in residence. I just completed CLC using it.

There is no supplement for the PD series on the wing home page nor to 52-16 as well.  So it can't be a requirement it sounds more like a practice.

No idea if it is in writing somewhere. I got denied for online CLC because FLWG requires all members to take our courses. Not a big deal. Salute and execute.

winterg

Just for grins, I pulled the denial email from last year. The word used was "prefer". Which is just semantics since they won't approve you to take the online course, as the Wing CC prefers that FL members take our courses.

If it's not in writing, it's not real. It's crazy that your wing is not allowing you to complete a promotion requirement in a manner that is permitted and not backing it up with any sort of supplement. Thought the days of "because I said so" were over. Go Florida.

To be fair, maybe there is a memo or wing policy written that I am unaware of.  I don't have any heartache over it.  Actually, if I had my way, we wouldn't have online versions of PD classes like SLS and CLC.  One of the most valuable takeaways from these courses are the connections you make outside your squadron.  But I am also a realist and I know that a lot of people these days just don't have an entire weekend to go to a CAP class.

You must have gone to a different TLC then the one I went to. ???

I would take an online TLC as long as i received credit for it. I took CLC through WYWG and was very satisfied.

Jaison009

I would be interested.

Just curious---
Is that a Wing SOP or national CAP standard?

I'll be attending OHWG's PD session this month, to include TLC, and my understanding is that the PDO oversees it all.

The TLC is a program ran through Cadet Programs.  It may be that the PD officer and the CP officer work hand-in-hand to help host the activity, especially if it is ran in conjunction with SLS, CLC, UCC, etc.  Nevertheless, the program is administered through the Cadet Programs.  Although when you send the CAPF 11, it will still go to Personnel Services, which, from my understanding is then forwarded over to Curt LaFond for record keeping.

If you notice on page 5 of the TLC Director's guide, the person that is responsible for selecting a director is either the Echelon CC or Echelon DCP, although on page 2 it says the hosting commander.

I am currently taking TLC online using Blackboard.  It's a beta test right now and headed by MDWG with support from NHQ.

It is working brilliantly!  It's a 5 week course with each module taking one week.  We provide feedback along the way as to how it's working out and the #1 agreement is to limit the online course to 12-15 members at a time because it has become challenging to read so many discussion responses.
