April Fools or not, I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't discussions going on now about this very issue.

a) I highly, HIGHLY doubt that there is any HQDA-level discussion about Cav hats. ( Its a known fact that they don't let cav troopers serve at any level higher than "squadron" anyway.  /me runs and hides.)

b) I totally missed this on Friday, and man, I'm really bummed.  Thats _classic_ and a great example of the Army not taking itself too seriously.

c) I am currently wearing a shirt that says "2nd International Nha Trang Open Surf Competition." The president of the college I worked at, who was a HUGE Apocalypse Now fan, saw it one day when he was out shopping and he bought it, knowing I'd get the joke.  I got summoned to the president's office the next day and all the way I'm thinking "what did I do?" Well, you can imagine the laugh we got out of that one. So truly, Charlie does surf.

A black Stetson with the latest version of the Army Blue uniform would be a hoot.  I started with pinks and greens in ROTC, then all the iterations of the Greens, with Blues and Whites on special occasions.  Don't own a single one of any of them and my CAP polo shirts are in storage.

If they did that, you can expect to see a gag order put in place on Cav Scouts Army wide.  But then again no one thought they would switch over to all wearing a black beret taken from Rangers and then have them slapped with a gag order to prevent them from expressing their discontent with the decision made to take their headgear.

I detest the black beret... one of the worst decisions the Army ever made. Give it back to the Rangers and let us regular joes wear a patrol cap.

You talking about all those berets that are probably still sitting in a warehouse in Pennsylvania because they weren't a "Buy American" purchase, and were never issued because of it? Yeah, real money saver there.

I wore the beret for about six years, and found it to be the most comfortable headgear that I wore, more so than the PC and boonie. I did prefer the baseball cap that we were allowed to wear in the brigade area, and in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have worn a beret for 12 yrs and I prefer it over a pc any day of the week.  My next preference would be the boonie.

I remember when that happened and it was discovered that the Army was making berets in China. I was stationed at Ft Hood at the time and it was right after they issued the things. Well maybe 6 months after. Anyway the Army Times or whatever it was called ran a big story on it. The funny thing was that it seemed that those who were the most outraged would go out to the seady surplus stores outside of post and buy new berets when their issue one wore out, which usually took 3-4 months. They buy them there because they were cheaper or better quality. Guess where they were made? Maybe not China but not in the USA either!

I forgot to add. I HATED the beret. In my opinion the only people who should be wearing one is the Green Berets. Maybe rangers but that's it. If it's hot outside it's litterally like wearing a big wool sock on your head. Not to mention half the people wear it all jacked up and it just looks stupid.

I recently got back into Scouting after years of being out and found the cool looking new uniforms are all made in Bangladesh. The shirts seem ok but I'm not fond of the pants. My wife has a pair and the zipper broke on hers less than five weeks or about five meetings after buying it.
Any advice I give is worth exactly what you are paying for it.
