Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in joining Oakley Standard Issue. Currently, CAP isn't eligible for the Oakley SI program but I've been thinking about writing to HQ and asking them to consider us for their program. I actually work for Oakley and that's the only reason I thought of this.

Would anyone be interested in helping me write the email? I'm not very good at the writing part of it.

This is actually incorrect, or at least not consistent in regards to Oakley's responses and stance.

If you have a .gov email address, which increasingly CAP members have, there appears to be no issue with
signing up and buying product.  In fact it was all I could do after re-verifying my contact info (at their automated request)
to get them to stop sending me sponsored emails.

Ah, sunglasses. So you can look like you are SF without the hassle of actually being SF.

I recall that some CAP members have been able to get membership approval a while back (Few years ago, back when it was usstandardissue.com). They qualified under Local Emergency Response Personnel. Faxed in a copy of their CAPID, made a call to customer service, and there they went.

I'm not sure that's fair - sunglasses are sunglasses, and there are plenty of reasons to need a high quality
pair of impact resistant glasses other then standing the line - CAP members spend plenty of time and money serving
in uniform, a few bucks off on SG's or boots is fair if someone is willing to offer it.  Even at the discounted prices
they cost twice what I'd ever consider paying for SG's, but it's not like Luxotica is going to notice one way or the other, and it's their decision to make.

Oakley generously extends a professional discount to a wide-range of LE, first responders, Mil, and Mil-affiliated folks.
They (SI) have sales targets like any business.
If they offer SI membership to CAP, cool, use it.
The prices for the basic sunglasses and ballistic goggles are pretty reasonable and they have good sales.
Oakley SI stuff is all US-made. I don't think $70 for a pair of US-made glasses is bad.

Only get one set of eyes. My eyes are protecting.
For the $, polarized Oakleys are a value.

Oakley's are the only sunglasses I wear.  I started wearing them as a cop (bought through this program) and now am up to my fourth pair.  Big bonus is being able to replace the lenses when they get scratched.

Sounds cool, but as I am blind as a bat without my prescription probably not useful for me, unless they provide just the frames

They actually do have a prescription service.  You choose the frames and submit your prescription.

I've used the prescription M-frames purchased through SI and they just needed a copy of my prescription. This was circa 2007 so I have no idea what product changes have happened since.

Stonewall

Several years ago a handful of CAP members got CAP booted from Oakley Standard Issue for basically demanding the privilege due to their "military" or status as an "emergency service."

Maybe they've opened it back up to CAP, but it was quite embarrassing to our organization.
