Title: For the Admirals
Post by: flyerthom on May 27, 2007, 04:30:59 AM
Was at the Thunderbird Musem on Nellis AFB this week. Guess who else are Admirals in the Nebraska Navy? The Thunderbirds! If I knew how to post the Pic I'd show you the commision.

Too funny. I guess we are in good company.

All you need to do is go to the website and fill out the form. Look the link below.

Search CAPTalk.  There's already about three or four threads on this now.

What would be a plausible reason to give as cause for the nomination? -- what have the admirals here come up with?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing... Especially since I've never stepped foot in the state....

^That's probably enough justification...I put that I did a report on Nebraska in the 3rd grade when we were learning about the 50 states and by doing so, brought credit to the state...

I noted that there was a possibility that I might retire to Nebraska someday and they seemed to think that made me Admiral material.

Actually, you can just cite your role as a volunteer in cap and dedication to ES, cadet programs and helping others in a time of crisis and need.

How long do these take to get? I sent my request in a couple of weeks ago, and have seen nothing to date.

Mr. Bowles, being a recent Admiral appointee myself, I was contacted about your application and it was discussed and denied.  Your prior service with the actual Navy was felt to be a detriment to the goals and missions of the Great State of Nebraska Navy.  We like to think of ourselves as more of a gentleman's Navy and do not want to surround ourselves with personnel that may have worked 12 hour shifts on board actual floating vessels.  The only thing we could find in common with the actual Navy was the Rum ration in the old days and it just wasn't enough.  Go someplace where you will be appreciated, such as the CAP or something (He-He)..

Well fellow admirals, looks like we shut down the easy access to a commission!

Quote
ADMIRALSHIPS
The new guidelines for Governor Heineman's administration are as follows:

The Nominator or Nominee must be a resident of Nebraska.
Requests nominating self will not be honored.
Those who are nominating persons for Admiralships will need to send the request by U.S. Postal mail or present it to the Governor's Office.  E-mail requests will not be accepted.
All requests must be in writing.
If the date for the Admiralship is not specifically requested, the received date will be used on the certificate.
The Governor retains full discretion for any Admiralship requests.
The Governor's Office requests notice of 2-3 weeks to process Admiralships.
If you would like to make a nomination for an Admiralship you may write to the Governor's Office at:

Office of the Governor
Attn: Admiralships
P.O. Box 94848
Lincoln, NE 68509

The good news is that there is a hat, flag, and pin available from the Nebraska Admirals Association:  http://nebraskaadmirals.org
I think I'll order a flag and hat, then add double "scrambled eggs" for said hat!

So, anyone else want a commission? Contact someone in Nebraska wing and schmooze ;D

P.S.
Mission in Bicol area of the Phiippines is complete. Did lots of good. We're now steaming toward the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. We'll disembark in controlled numbers of course. We'll be engaged in MEDCAP's, DENCAP's, ENCAP's, and COMREL's. So we'll be ashore in uniform, including our embarked USAF officers and enlisted members! Force protection provided by VM gov't of course :-\

Back in the 'Nam, here we go!

Well, it was fun while it lasted, anyway.

I wonder if, indeed, the spate of applications from CAPTalk members had anything to do with the Governor's decision to limit applications to those actually in Nebraska.  If so, then I apologize to the Governor and to all here who applied and didn't get their commissions -- I thought it was pretty cool and passed it along to those who hadn't received one yet.

As ranking Admiral of CAPTalk (I got my commission first), I hereby order the mainbrace spliced, the smoking lamp lit, and the firewatch festivities to commence.  (Whatever that means.   :D)

Isn't there a better word for the curse filter?
I was never a fan of Deuce Bigalow movie, but it grows on you I guess.

Still, there's gotta be something more creative than mess.  Like maybe [Colon Bolus]?
What about [Alabama .NET Programmer]?
Or [that's gonna itch when it dries]?
Perhaps [CAP Talk uniform thread]?

[mess], I dunno.  :)

Oops! quoted Jack again! This computer is slower than the old dial up, and for some reason (probably due to pitching and rolling about on the high seas) the server sent out a second quote. The poor sat antenna is doing some gymnastics to keep sight of the receiving satellite as well as handle a bunch of SIPR and NIPR net traffic ;D

Very loaded question ;) I'll leave it alone for now!

BTW, Jack, was it you who posted a picture of some shoulder boards awhile back on another thread? It turns out that the shoulder boards are current uniform items for a Vice Admiral in the Navy of big red China;
also known as the Peoples Liberation Army Navy (PLA(N)).
Sure must be confusing at their Army-Navy games ;D

Are they, now?  Most interesting.  I wondered where the fellow who made them for eBay got the pattern idea.  Hm.

Anyway, if someone will endorse your proposal for my fifth star, I'll just get hold of a set of those shoulderboards (they're all over eBay too) and let that be that.

Being a former naval person myself, the thought of promotion to Admiral in any navy is a real temptation. As I have pondred a reasonable justification for such an honor, I think I have hit on a great idea. Should any of us/you manage under the new rules to swing a nomination you could try using the following as a rationale for the award:

"I upheld the honor of the Great State of Nebraska by refusing to laugh at the following joke:

Question: What does the "N" on the Nebraska football helmet stand for?

Answer: The same thing as the K on the Kansas helmet -- Knowledge."
