Title: GoPro Launched Off Aircraft Carrier
Post by: Eclipse on April 16, 2016, 03:27:02 AM
Testing the new electromagnetic catapult on the Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78)
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzB3UOTZXiA#)

The comments indicate the sled is recovered and the camera was intended to separate on water impact.

Pretty kool. Those sleds average around 45,000 pounds. I've watched a couple of similar steam propelled shots from the flight deck of the Midway.

Here's a different view (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc7tHStXfkQ#)

I've also seen them launch flight deck boots a few times, and there is a Youtube  video of them launching some Chief's Ford Falcon...

Thanks for sharing....impressive.

Adding to Al Sayre's comment, when HMS Ark Royal (R09, decommissioned 1979) was finally decommissioned, one of the last items shot down the deck was a piano captured from the RAF during some social event!  It was raised on the elevator with a pianist, wearing flying equipment, playing..!  Probably on You Tube somewhere.
