Maj. James Brent
Frankfort Composite Squadron
Kentucky Wing

James "Don" Donald Brent, 81, of Frankfort, KY, passed away on January 10, 2018 in Frankfort, KY. Don was a gentle and kind man, always having a smile or kind word for everyone. He was born on December 14, 1936 to the late Dewey Floyd and Martha Louise Hardesty Brent in Campbellsburg, KY.
Don was a 1954 graduate of Campbellsburg High School and a 1958 graduate of Western Kentucky University where he was a member of the 13ers Fraternity and the ROTC Rifle Team. After graduating college, Don served his county in the United States Air Force. Beginning in the early 1970s, he began service in the Civil Air Patrol. At the time of his death he was a Major. For thirty-eight and a half years he worked for the Kentucky State Government in the Department of Transportation. After retiring for a short period of time, he went on to PEH Engineering and served as project manager for several years. Don was a third partner in the Brentstead Farm, a family-owned farm in Trimble County since the early eighteen-hundreds. He had a passion for airplanes and flying all of his life. He loved to travel and attend air shows with his family. In addition to his family life, Don was a devoted member of several organizations and contributor to several charities. He was member of IRWA (International Right of Way Association), where served as past President, Frankfort Jaycees, Cupola Society of WKU (a club of generous donors). Among his favorite charities were the American Red Cross, where he was a frequent donor over many years of his life, Wounded Warriors Program and many more. Don's family roots run deep, as he loved to return to the family farm. A gentle smile could always be seen when he spent time there with his brothers and family.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Traci Brent Hayden and her husband Patrick of Lexington, KY and Laura Barrington Brent of Louisville, KY; his brothers and sister, Robert A. Brent of PeeWee Valley, KY, Lucy B. Forbes of Edmonton, KY and Jerry Brent and his wife Mary Ann of Campbellsburg, KY, and host of loving family and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, and loving wife of forty-two years, Eva Joyce Emery Brent.
