Major Joseph L Chizmadia passed away from Covid related illness on January 24, 2021. Major Chizmadia was born in New York to the late Louis and Anna (Pekarovich) Chizmadia on March 18, 1944. He is survived by his sister Margaret Pierce of New Hampshire, daughters Lysa Chizmadia of Georgia and Anna (Beau) Guthrie of Idaho, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Major Chizmadia graduated from Valley Stream, Central High School in 1962 graduated from New York University in 1968. Upon graduating from college, Major Chizmadia joined the Unites State Air Force and served from 1968 to 1975 in the Vietnam theatre, eventually retiring from the Air Force Reserves. Major Chizmadia retired from management in the pest control industry, but his first love was the military! In 2014 Major Chizmadia relocated from California to Washington to be closer to family, and lived with Nephew Duane (Juanita) Wiggin (of Port Orchard). Major Chizmadia will always be known as "Uncle Joe" to the children, grandchildren, and the extended family of Duane and Juanita.

Major Chizmadia volunteered for over 50 years with both the California and Washington Wing of the Civil Air Patrol achieving the rank of Lt Col. One of the activities that he enjoyed was the flight academy, teaching future pilots, that occurred annually. A memorial service will be held at a later date due to Covid.
