Special Note:

Members of Pennsylvania Wing,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of 2d Lt Norman R. Jones, long serving faithful member of member of Pennsylvania Wing's Squadron 203 and subsequently Squadron 522. Lt Jone passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 91.

Lt. Jones had been born in New Jersey but spent most of his life in Pennsylvania. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and worked in a variety of automotive enterprises and for the Pennsylvania Hospital Services Co. and as a volunteer for over 39 years with Meals on Wheels.

A Congressional Gold Medal commemorating the WWII Civil Air Patrol service honored his father-in-law, Lt. Edmond " Eddie " Edwards, who was also awarded the Air Medal by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1943 for his courageous rescue of a downed CAP subchaser in 1942. Following that Congressional Gold Medal ceremony, Lt. Norman Jones decided to join CAP and Squadron 203 in Hazleton. Despite being in his mid 80s when he joined, he took an active part, serving on the Finance Committee and helping with fundraising. He truly enjoyed going to meetings, and loved seeing the cadets participating in aviation. He will be missed.

May he rest in peace.
