Has anyone seen the trailer for 'The Astronaut Farmer'?

http://theastronautfarmermovie.warnerbros.com/

I think it looks great, and am anxious to go see it and take the family. Funny, inspirational, exciting... what more could you ask for in a movie. Especially one that generates interest in aerospace and working towards a dream.

MIKE

I saw the trailer on TV over the weekend.  Since it's only PG it might not be a bad choice for a squadron movie might out.

It looks like it would be fun.

It kind of reminds me of Robert Heinlein's "The Man Who Sold the Moon".

Before I see it answer me this question...

Is it a remake of an Andy Griffith movie/series/miniseries Slavage 1 from the 1970s about a guy who builds a rocket and makes a moonshot?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvage_1

If it is I will be disappointed in our time.  Every movie is a freaking remake... i.e. War of the Worlds, The Pink PantherDougal et al.

I think its time we found someone to make the CAP WWII story a movie.  Frame it in a Sept 11th Story as a flashback.

Now, how to do that with solemnity?

Nope, nothing like it. I put the link in for the movies website, it has a synopsis and trailer, you should go look at it, Major.

Agreed, but that's besides the point.

Sounds like a winner, get on the horn to Hollywood and see what you can stir up. Maybe even pitch it as 'Pearl Harbor II'   ::)

Actually, that sounds like the type of movie someone would like to make.  Civilians taking on the enemy seems like just the type of heroic inspirational movie someone in Hollywood is looking for.  Of course, most of them have probably never heard of CAP, so that might be the problem.  Maybe someone should contact Clint Eastwood, as he seems to be doing WWII movies right now.

Hummm...some one mentioned Harrison Ford was a CAP Officer, did they not?

Imagine that...  (narrated by Don La Fontaine)

"In a world where Civil Aviation is challenged..." (dark music...shows men closing aircraft doors and images of a Nazi Party Rally and Hitler making a speech)

"A NATON'S coastline trembles...(a sub emerges from a dark sea)"

"But one man has a vision... and a nation's civilians answer the call..."

Coming Summer 2010... Harrison Ford is Gill Rob Wilson...

Paramount Pictures proudly presents...

THOSE [darn] LITTLE YELLOW PLANES- The Gill Rob Wilson Story!!!

Harrison Ford as Gill Rob Wilson, an aviator with a vision, John Goodman as Mayor Fiorello La Guardia and Calista Flockhart as some amalgam of a 1930s female aviator...and featuring Steve Martin as General Hap Arnold.

Cool Ideas, these would make a great movie.  Too bad we couldn't do an "independent"film.  We could write the costs off as an "External areospace education mission"  What do you think?

Some more characters for the film:

Bob Gunton as Earle Johnson
Richard Herd as MG John F. Curry

BTW, I'd have Billy Bob Thornton play Gill Rob Wilson.
