John J. Dowling, 81, of 112 Starboard Tack, Greenwood, died Aug. 3 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont, South Carolina.

Born in Perth Amboy, N.J., John was a retired high school administrator.

Survivors are his wife, Kathryn "Kay" Dowling, two sons, John and Kevin Dowling; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Aug 11, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with Father T. Tebault officiating. Immediately following there will be a reception and visitation with family at Bernadette Hall. Interment at a later date at the family plot in South Amboy, NJ.

1935-2017

Member of CAP since 1977 started in N.J wing where he helped form two squadrons. Col M N Spears Composite Squadron and L5 Cadet Squadron. Helped to rebuild MER SC 106 from 4 members to 30. Was always AE Officer and twice received AE Officer of the year, 2010 and 2012. Was receiver of several AE grants and much AE equipment. Retired as HS Principal after 34 years in Middletown Township N J.
Bibs as vests for veterans over 250 backpacks for wounded at Walter Reed and Bethesda over 150 each valued over $150. Cell phones for soldiers and shoeboxes items that filled 20 gallon bags and were sent to soldiers on front lines in Afghanistan.
