Hey guys, im eligible for 3 propellers on one of my rewards, and i saw the 3 propeller cluster on vanguard-mil. Now, does this entire thing go on the ribbon, or can you actually detach each propeller individually, because i imagine it looking horrible if you put it as is on the ribbon. Thanks again.

If it's sold as a three it's on set of connected propellors

There are two schools of thought on this:

1)  Use the connected ribbon devices such as the one you are describing and attach it to the ribbon as a single device, or

2)  Use three separate individual devices and attach those to the ribbon by dividing the ribbon into thirds

Some people will harp that one is better over the other.  To me, it makes no difference as long as they look good.

+1 - It will be harder to get 3 aligned straight as separate attachments, but there's no spec either way.

So.....did you get your membership stuff take care of.....and if so......how can you be eligible for three CAP ribbons in so short of a time?

Actually you are eligible for only 2 devices.  The ribbon is awarded for 60 hours.  Each additional device is 60 hours.  So in order to have 3 devices, you would need 240 hours.

You may want to hold off spending money until the decoration(s) are approved.

This sounds like the hours may have been done while you weren't even a member.
If so, your CC may not be inclined to approve them.

Either way, as indicated, it's a ribbon +2 attachments.

Had a cadet insist he should be getting credit for something like 1,000 hours once.

With about 2,000 work hours in a year, and a cadets' primary job being school, that was interesting. ;-)

In this case...there is enough of a gray area about "while you weren't even a member" that I would just let it pass.   Remember this is the guy who has "been in CAP" for at least two years without being a member.

So....like I said....not worth getting all technical about it.

You can claim volunteer service hours before you were a CAP member?  Sweet!  I need to submit all those hours with the local ambulance corps and volunteer fire department all those years ago.

If there is a 2,3, 4 device cluster, why not use them?

Compare the CAP triangular clasp 3 device with say a 3 oak leaf cluster device like the military uses.
The CAP device has the devices seperated while the oak leaf cluster device has then clustered together.
Not to mention that the level of detail is much, much better on the military stuff vs what CAP uses.
And the funny thing is that they're both manufactured by Vanguard.
