Title: Leather Flight Jacket Nametag Placement
Post by: Shuman 14 on January 26, 2018, 04:47:41 AM
I need some help. I've looked both in the AFI and CAP regulations for information but I can't find any information on the placement of the Velcro for the nametag on the Leather flight jacket. I think the assumption is it would come from the manufacturer with the Velcro already in place, which isn't the case when it's purchased on the civilian market.

Before you ask, why is the Army Guy asking about an Air Force Jacket... got an A-2 jacket as a Christmas present. I want to turn it into a morale jacket and sew all the unit patches from every unit I've ever served in on the back, put the Army Star patch on the left sleeve and a reversed US Flag on the right sleeve.

I also want to put a nametag on the left breast but I don't know the official placement. Such as "x" inches above and centered on the left patch pocket.

I can approximate and guess but if there is an official placement I'd like to do it properly. Can anyone assist? Thanks in advance.

Why would you ruin a leather jacket by sewing patches on it?
Go get a regular green flight like the Army aviators wear and sew the patches on it.
If for nothing else it will be much easier sewing!

If I'm not mistaken, the badges are placed about the same as on they are on the flight suit.

Correct for the flight jacket; identical placement.

For the black leather jacket, only the CAP command shield and the leather name patch are authorized (no shoulder or pocket patches).

He's not asking in a CAP capacity.

Because I don't own an Army green flight jacket, I now own a brown leather A-2 leather jacket and I want to sew the patches on it.

One Man's ruin, another man's art.

All it states is: "6.1.5.4. A two-toned black with brown insert leather name patch on the left breast."

No measurements are given, i.e. "right edge of nametag will align right edge of the and will parallel the top edge of the pocket x inches above the pocket itself".

The name-tag appears to be centered between the top and bottom of the arm hole, and then centered between the seam of the arm hole and the zipper. The command patch is the same on the other side.

EDIT: For reference-

No problem, one correction though: I just noticed the top command patch is actually flush with the top of the nametag. Other than that it's placed the same. Sorry!

No worries, like I said it's for a morale jacket, not official so there wasn't going to put a Command Patch on it anyways.
