I've noticed one small part of the members list is the position field.
There are:
Administrators
Forum Regulars
Global Mods
Lurkers
Members
Newbies
Recruits
Seasoned Members
Suspended
VIPs
Some are more apparent on meaning than others, but what do they mean and/or how to you achieve getting them?

Some are appointed or granted by the site staff due to staff position or as recognition of other exceptional special qualifications... Others are based on your number of posts and will change as your number of posts increase to set levels.
I've noticed some of the changing.... Just wasn't real sure on the cut-offs for each, obviously Lurkers are there, but say nothing - EVER... And Suspended is, well, SoL... and admins are admins, as are mods. VIP's are I'm thinking the techies, and the rest work on posts.

VIPs are people the site staff choose to recognize because they are prominent members/staffers of other sites like www.cadestuff.org and others... Or they are just
that cool and are genuinely deserving of such recognition on this site.
Mike, our resident "Seasoned Member" ;) explained that all pretty well.
The forum ranks for most of the membership are based on the number of posts you make. There are some exceptions to this, including nonsense posts and people who post a bunch of crap just to up their post count will get their count reduced accordingly. Based on your post count, you can earn these forum ranks:
0 - Lurker
1 - Newbie
5 - Recruit
50 - Member
100 - Forum Regular
200 - Seasoned Member
500 - Salty & Seasoned Contributor
In addition, as you noticed, there are certain titles that cannot be earned by mere post-count but must be bestowed on a user by the forum administration.
Administrators include Jerry and myself, for inventing, running, and hosting CAPTalk.
Moderators are pretty self-explanatory.
VIPs are individuals who are very involved in the online CAP community and who, for one reason or another, this board is recognizing. Their numbers may increase with time.
Suspended users, well. Yeah, they're SoL, as you put it. :)
These ranks may change without warning (as they often do), and we're always tinkering with new title ideas, and altering post counts. Over time, the post-count ranks will also be added to in order to compensate for users who go above and beyond 500 posts.
Capice? 8)
that does make a lot more sense, cool beans, thank you kindly.

Sure. The ratings don't mean that much anyway. I've got better things to do that keep count of my posts. Maybe if I got a ribbon at certain levels of posting... :D :P
Does anyone really care what the rating is? I expect to be a recruit for years since I do not plan to post 50 times. After 50 years in CAP, it's refreshing to be a recruit.
Hopefully, everyone thinks the same way. The forum ranks are nothing more than playful musings on part of the staff here. They can be shut off with the click of a mouse, or changed on a whim. You don't get any increased pay, or respect, or 'coolness factor' by having tons of posts full of junk. In fact, we'd rather see a small handful of posts loaded with wisdom and good advice.
Honestly, I don't plan to go up in forum rank anytime soon, either. ;)
What! No pay! First you tell me that there are rules and now no pay!

(Not trying to increase my post level, however it does provide an indication of who is active on the forum)
So 500 is the next major landmark....

Yep - you've got your own membership categories. If you keep posting at your current rate, we'll have to create new membership levels just for you. :o ;) ;D
hehehehe
And this after I took a multi-week break because business got so crazy.
OK.
500 is the target.....[/font]
So if we hit like 10,000 do we get a set of steak knives ;D

When you hit 10,000 posts, we'll give you a special prize. :)
(You have to hit 10,000, however, to find out what the special prize is.) ;)

That's just a tad over what I netted last year in gross CAP pay. Then, once I got my recruiting bonuses, ES qual pay, and DCC Stressful Duty pay added in there, I was probably up in that 6 figure range!
:D

I doubled that due to deployments and re-signing my contract. I think I et a pay raise next year too. ;)

Several people have told me I am a character.

I know this is a humongous bump, but I thought the irony of this post was interesting.
As this is posted, BillB has 1,237 posts, and is now a Salty & Seasoned Contributor.
I noticed that- but I thought I would let a respected SM point it out before doing the bump, since I was the one advising the cadet against such actions, if in a very general way. ;D ;D
hey, it's better than my pay of $-5

Yes, I saw your post.
CCAlex was replying specifically to the CAP 'salary' conversation that was going on, rather than your post or any other recent ones.
Oh. I was actually looking for something else, found it, then noticed BillB's post, and its irony. Didn't bother to review the rest of the thread.
Back to sleep now.
In light of a recent Cadet and his attitude resulting in suspension I became curious about the process. Do those suspended eventually get to join again?
Ignore - I thought you were asking about suspension of CAP membership, not forum membership.
There has been the addition of the TMFT award since this was posted...

Some are temporary, some are more permanent, in lieu of a ban. Suspended members can not post, but they can still log in.
