Okay, here's a tip. Don't get lost!
Put your compass on a lanyard around your neck or in one of your front pockets with the lanyard tied to your belt. Various other locations can serve well for a map depending on how large the map is.
Remember that all regulations are applicable at all times. ES operations are one of the most heavily regulated activities we do in CAP.
OTOH, if you do want to support Civil Air Patrol... just Get Lost!
Don't forget to close your flight plan.
Make sure you check the fuel and oil levels before you fly.
Make sure you're in uniform, or wearing the prescribed alteration to the uniform approved from up the chain of command. *Cough cough OP...*
