Non-airborne types used to salute and say "HOOAH".  I'd return the salute and say "YOUAH". (Some of them got it and laughed - most didn't).  I hated it when soldiers started saying that in the 1980s.  Back to Smilies.

Yep -- back to the smilies.  The hat wasn't meant to indicate "HOOAH."  Just what I said before... coming from a uniform state of mind or feeling all "ship shape."  (Pardon the wrong service cliche'.)
