I recieved this email yesterday.  I had the pleasure of knowing LTC Nahrstadt personally while I was part of Sq.45.  He was a man and a pastor who jumped into CAP with both feet along with is wife Karen who was always with him.  I saw him talk often with cadets who were having trouble at home, to a cadet who was upset about not passing a test.  This is truely a loss and he will be missed.

A few moments ago I received a phone call from Lt Col John Stark informing me of the passing of Chaplain (Lt Col) Jack Nahrstadt – former CAWG HC, Professional Development Officer for the CAWG Chaplain Service, Group 3 HC and Squadron 45 HC.

The Nahrstadts and the Starks were on an Alaskan Cruise celebrating the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Jack and Karen.  They enjoyed a great cruise and had a great many memorable experiences.  Jack was able to visit the first Russian Orthodox Church established in North America (Sitka, Alaska).  Hours before his passing, Jack partook of Holy Communion.  On Thursday evening, Jack enjoyed a nice evening together with Karen and the Starks celebrating the Nahrstadts' anniversary, Jack went to bed for a time of sleep on the cruise ship and woke up in his heavenly home.

John relates that Karen is in good spirits and is doing well.   The time and location of the memorial service has yet to be determined.  Cards and expressions of love can be sent to Karen at P.O. Box 1477; Wildomar, CA 92595.

We will greatly Jack's friendship, his spirit of faithful commitment and dedication, and the way he inspired each of us to pursue excellence.  I know that Karen, the Nahrstadt family members, Jack's church family, and all those whose lives have been impacted by Jack's pastoral and CAP ministry would appreciate your prayers during this time.

In Service Together,

"Eagerness and thrill seeking in others' misery is psychologically corrosive, and is also rampant in EMS. It's a natural danger of the job. It will be something to keep under control, something to fight against."

Requiescat in pace.

Did the family name a charity or fund for donations in his honor and memory?

Not yet, but we expect to hear something in the next few days. He passed on a cruise ship so it's going to take a couple of days.

I just received word on the arrangements for Chaplain Nahrstadt. Viewing and services will be at Memory Garden Memorial Park, 455  W. Central Ave.  Brea, CA

Viewing on Sunday Sept 30, 1300 - 2000, with services Monday Oct 1, at 1300.

I did not hear of a charity or fund for donations in his honor and memory...the family is still working on some details.

Chaplain Nahrstadt will surely be missed.
