Uniforms are HIGHLY encouraged in my squadron. We do have a UOD, but if you show up in ANY uniform (AF blues, BDU's, corporate, polo), anything, you are fine and actually applauded.

Of course we do have some members show up without a uniform on, but that is usually because they literally got off of work and drove to the meeting. One thing I will say, while I ultimately will get my AF uniform and BDU's the polo uniform allowed me to get into a uniform quickly and cheaply....and I see it readily accepted by members that otherwise would balk heavily at wearing a uniform.

I just ran into a small issue with the pants to my corporate no longer fitting properly. This came about when my unit commander sent out an email giving the activities for the upcoming meeting. I replied to the email stating that the pants didn't fit, and requested authorization to wear BDUs. My commander emailed me back asking if I have civilian slacks and a nice shirt. He also asked what size I take, and that supply may be able to accommodate me.

My commander is clear about the uniforms. When a member shows up, the first thing they are asked that evening is where their uniform is, followed by how are you. To me, the commander plays a big roll in motivating members to wear the uniform. If your commander doesn't care, then that attitude will reflect the other members of the unit. It helps to have some guidance in the unit even if it is petty. But then again, it's not all on the commander to come dress you before the meeting.
