Title: Online Historical Preservation Training?
Post by: Capt Thompson on December 04, 2015, 04:05:51 AM
Ok Historians, help me out if you can. I'm finishing up the final requirements for my technician rating, and the one I'm getting stuck on is the following training requirement:

Attend a workshop, lecture, demonstration etc. of at least one day on preserving
historical material or research techniques, or interview techniques or technical
writing or similar topic given by a reputable source, in person or online.

So I've called all of the historic museums in the area, both large and small, and the only luck I've had are with the local colleges, for actual semester long courses that count towards a history degree. I've also been scouring the internet trying to find a suitable online course on preservation and research, and all I'm finding are short videos and a few pdf documents and checklists.

Have any of you found an online course that completes this requirement, that you would be able to recommend? I've done quite a bit of research on historic preservation, but nothing I could bring in to my PDO as a verified class/lecture/workshop. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was also looking for other sources that I could send out to my wing.  I really did not find much, albeit I did not really look too hard.  I was fortunate that the Army sent me to a few seminars on historical preservation that I was able to apply towards my history ratings.

Have you contacted the local genealogical groups? Here's a place to start http://www.usgenweb.org/research/index.shtml (http://www.usgenweb.org/research/index.shtml)

or more specifically for Michigan  http://www.migenweb.net/ (http://www.migenweb.net/)
