I know amateur radio isn't CAPlegal, but I was wondering if any of the HAMs out there have made contact with the International Space Station.

What did you say?  What equipment did you use? Etc.

drcomm

I have not made voice contact with them but have made contact with the packet radio station on the ISS.  I have heard them talking to other people, just was not able to bust the pile up of others trying to talk with them.

I forgot to add the equipment used.  I've made several contacts with the packet station.  The radios used were a Kenwood TR-9000 2m All Mode using FM at 10 watts and a Yaesu FT-5100 running about 45 watts.  The antennas were either a 5 element yagi or a standard AR-2 Ringo.

I made contact with it on 2M with a Kenwood TM-271A, and a J-Pole. The frequency in which they were broadcasting on was linked with a 440MHz and 2M. Great bunch of people.

LMAO, nice!

Its good to hear that you made contact on 10W drcomm.
As soon as I get my license (2 weeks maybe) I'd like to start trying to contact them.  Awesome DXing!

Best place to read up on Amateur Radio on the ISS is at: http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/ariss/.  Includes frequencies and modes to use, info on the SuitSat program, and more.

Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Congratulations on the new ticket.  Go ahead and try the general.  It just takes a little more study but opens the HF bands wide for you.  I've been a ham for over 25 years and now hold an extra class license.  It is a great hobby.

Yeah, I figure I will.  The radio club I took my technician class at is looking to have a general class in the near future, so I'll probably do it then.

Congrats on the tech ticket, from another tech.
