I have tried to contact the local avalance center but I get no response. They may be busy. But does anyone have any good material and/or videos to use for a avalanche safety(awareness) briefing?
The Mountain Rescue Association has two publications:
Basic avalanche awareness and safety:
http://www.mra.org/training/Avalanche_2004.pdf
Avalanche SAR Operations
http://www.mra.org/training/Avalanche_R2004.pdf
Steve Achelis with the Salt Lake Co. Sheriff's SAR Team and ski patroller has a website with avalanche safety information and an extensive, objective, comparison of avalanche beacons:

Since you're in Utah, contact the MRA teams in Utah for more information. Here is the contact list:

Backcountry Access, an avalanche beacon manufacturer, has a number of handouts and presentations, some for download, some you have to order:

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center education page has information on avalanches, not hockey ::):

Well, there is one very easy to remember rule.
STAY OUT OF THE CLOSED AREAS!!!
The vast majority of people caught in avalanches were skiing/boarding in closed areas.

hahahha....it's because they are sitting under an avalanche. I just read an article about a Colorado Avalanche center that actually sat in an avalanche area, and was buried 3 times by avalanches. How messed up is that?!?!
Reduces travel time for training exercises >:D
