Couple questions,
1.st Whose going to the Wisconsin Wing encampment

2. If you've been there before, what should I expect

3. are they really as much screaming and yelling as my technical sergeant said? (He said about the level of FMJ)

Bear with me if I sound annoyed I going just last winter

I'm not, however I have been to 5 encampments in IL before.

Expect to learn a lot about CAP, do a lot of drill, a lot of classes, and hopefully a lot of fun. You may end up doing firewatch for an hour or two during one of the nights.

Your C/TSgt should be smacked FMJ Style. (Not really, but you get the point).

NO encampment should have anything close to FMJ, and any screaming that needs to be done should only be done because people are far away and need to hear something.

While no encampment should, there probably is. However, if you know your stuff, you won't be the target of it. Assist others when able, in areas you're more familiar with, and you will help make the whole thing smoother for everyone, including that proverbial knotted up C/TSgt.

What's his reason? Has he gone before?

according to him his Instructor was screaming yelling and cussing
then hes like "You shouldn't go, this is your first year, you re gonna get over wealmed and they scream like FMJ"

I've known a number of cadets who are from/went to WI for encampment. Never heard anything like that. His advice though, is bogus. Encampment in the first year is proven to motivate most cadets, not the other way around.

Problem is most of my Senior officers agree with him, I could understand if I was only Airman Basic, but I'm getting my second stripe tonight, and I'm taking chapter four of leadership as well, They DO say "Its your choice, were just trying to look out for you" But it makes me feel like if I'm disobeying them if i go, Which I plan on doing since I just sent in my Application

Disobeying him?

If thats the message you are getting, they are not doing their job. They're supposed to encourage you to rise in the program, not scare you into not going or imply you're going against them.

That seems.. kind of odd.

I'd be willing to bet those same seniors have no idea what they are talking about, which sadly is all too common.

Get down out of your head on this and just go without expectations.  Cadets who attend an encampment their first year are
much more likely to stay in the program than those who don't.  Its worth the time and effort.

If you decide this year doesn't work, come see us in April in NE ILWG.

Im planning on going, so I guess theyll just have to deal with it. thanks guys for the advice

What Eclipse said. I've greatly enjoyed Spring Encampment at Great Lakes.

What does concern me is this: "but I'm getting my second stripe tonight, and I'm taking chapter four of leadership as well,"

Are you saying that you are promoting to C/A1C, but your unit is letting you test for C/TSgt?

Looks like test banking to me. Sounds like that unit's leadership needs hit upside the head with a clue by four.

That's what I'm thinking, and hence my concern.

Nothing "wrong" (except for the regs) with test banking, as long as it doesn't lead to early pinning of grade (which it often does). I know, because that's the type of unit I was in when I started.

Raja1020

You have to keep a rank for two months, then you get promoted,

theres testing every other week

But are you testing ahead? You are a C/Amn, have you taken tests past the Arnold?

You aren't in any trouble, but from this point, lets take it to PM.

You should know, by the way, what grade Arnold corresponds to.

Open up that blue zippered thing they sent you with books in it. :)
