Vehicle Graphics

Help please.  Myrtle Beach SC Squadron has access to an awesome vehicle graphics company (Showcards! Signs 843-448-6712...me) Capt. Meyer asked me to check specs & see what was regulation. I would like to, at least, make the approved graphics "oversized". Is there a source for such info?

Visibility purposes I'd guess. Although I'd think that that was already determined by NHQ when they made the decals that are received from them anyway.

Contact Marc Huchette, Director of Public Awareness and Member Development at NHQ: 334-953-7748, Ext. 235. Before moving up, he was responsible for wrapping vans with super graphics, and it still falls under his section. At one time, I'd asked for the graphic file to have printed and installed locally; I recall that he was agreeable. Not much savings, but it would have saved the design stage and used a common design.

I can send photos of two different wrapped vans. I saw one at NHQ a couple of times and it looks great. I saw the second one at Region Staff College last month, one of the "tests" wraps that were sent out to each region. The driver hated the look and was embarrassed to drive it. Except for the ^%@ triangle logo, I thought it looked fine. Neither the Region Commander nor PAO could tell me how "successful" (number of new members or inquiries, for instance) the idea was.

Vanguard carries the stickers. You need to buy magnootie stuff from a sign shop to make your own. Get the thick stuff. The thin stuff on the side of a car will lift at around 55 mph.

Actually, the use of the words "Civil Air Patrol" on POVs isn't on the list of approved uses, but the corporate emblem on privately-owned vehicles may be "used for CAP business upon written approval of the wing or region commander as appropriate. Such approval will be granted only where its use would reflect favorably upon CAP."  per CAPR 900-2, paragraph 3(d)-2.    And the corporate seal is prohibited for use on POVs, period.

I didn't see the "Civil Air Patrol" "Official Business" stickers.

I did see the 10" seal, but you can't use that on a POV.

As to what good is it, otherwise? Doors, walls, lockers, podiums..  I guess.

Though I do have one mounted on a magnet.

They have two items titled 10" seal. One is actually the emblem, and is so identified in the description.

CAPR 900-2, para 3.d.2) says one thing about its use. Table 1 says it slightly different, implying that WgCC approval is not necessarily required.

I've had them on the side of my vehicle, without any complaints from anyone.

Wow, I'm surprised at you. Falling back on that "but no one said anything" in a "I've been told, I've heard" kinda way.


Which leads me back to, if we're not supposed to use that seal (as I would presume, it could be lead to construe a higher authority), why is it available for sale in a durable, all weather format. Of course, it's not on a magnet. As I noted, doors, lockers, podiums...  Yes, I have a set of them, too. Granted, I have also put them on the vehicle - however the rationale there is when we are setup someplace stationary, the vehicle and it's attendants have been "tagged" as to who we are, and what we might be doing.


Though I do also have those AF blue rectangular things that are also probably not authorized because it says "Civil Air Patrol",  and generally only get put on once we're on an airport ramp.


The whole thing is probably a slippery slope, I mean, what next, "if they can't be trusted with vehicle magnets.. " and besides, they wear flight jackets in civvies. They all must be evil renegade anti-authoritive ..  oh never mind
