Any ideas what this is?  I got it this afternoon.

It looks like they scraped our Wing site and the info isn't even correct.

This smacks of search-poisoning, or similar.

Anyone know / seen this before?

Duane Corey's number comes back to a James Corey in AL.

Never heard of it. Could be a list but if it redirects someone from the ILWG site that's fishy. Does it effect just that site or the ILWG Blog too?

Dustin Corey.  He is (or at least was) a CAP member that frequented another cadet-related forum.

I have to wonder how long before he received the C&D order.

OK, it doesn't redirect just relists information already on the wing web page. I didn't check whether there are any mistakes or intentional errors.

I just heard from him - apparently he's decided on his own recon to build "...a webpage that list all of the squadrons across the country, as well as encampments and other resources..."

Whats wrong w/ NHQ & Google?

I have no doubt its well-intentioned, but it is also unnecessary.  I have asked for my units to be removed.

The last thing we need are MORE sources of inaccurate information - my Group is due to have a new CC in 11 days, which means that his site will be inaccurate in that short time.

When it goes to the page that recyles the webiste info, there is a link at the top that will take you to the CAP Units website.  This is not a bad idea, guess you IT types will need to keep the sites updated now!
What's up monkeys?

Maybe the site should be renamed "Capnuts.com" . Cops have donuts we have..... oh well.

I got one of these today too.  WTH?  I am planning to inquire with NHQ next week.

I got it 2 or 3 weeks ago.  I checked out the site, it seem ok, and made sure the info was corrrect.  Anything that makes it easier to find my Squadron's web page other than a link on www.porno's-R-us or something is ok by me.

How does it make it easier to find your site?

At least it has the potential to make it easy to find CAP web pages.  CAP's own web site has made it harder unfortunately.  The way it is set up now is probably just fine for people thinking about joining CAP and who are looking for a nearby unit.  But, if you're just trying to find a CAP Wing or squadron web site it is almost impossible to do now.

What's wrong with Google?

"That Others May Zoom"

RiverAux

Sure, if you know the exact name of the unit you're trying to find.  But, say I'll like to look at all the web pages associated with a particular Wing its not going to be terribly easy to use google for that.  Sure, if the Wing happens to include links to squadron sites on their page you can start from there, but that isn't always a given.

We had a generally user-friendly system and took a step backwards.

Eclipse

I searched on "Civil Air Patol" - Google corrected my spelling.

The first link was NHQ, with a sub-heading of "Join".

I clicked "Join", and the top link on the menu was "Find Units Near Me".

I clicked,  entered my zip code, and chose "Within 50 Miles".

The next page displayed was every unit in NE ILWG (which I could narrow with a smaller radius).

What more do you want?

So, first I have to figure out what the zip code is of some city in the state to get the nearerst 10 units (or within 50 miles), then figure out another city in the other part of the state and do it again, compare the lists, etc., etc., etc.

All I'm asking is that they make it so we can search by State.  They've already got that as a parameter but make you pick a city first.  Easy, easy switch to make.

Sorry, I guess it was too much to ask to think that CAP could have a nice simple query that would show all the units in a state (like we had for years).  My mistake to think CAP's technological capabilities had advanced beyond about 1995.
