Question. Is this forum like all the others where if you delete a member's account all their past posts and threads remain?

Wait, you can't delete your own account? Only the CAPTalk moderators can delete it? That's not cool... ???

As a rule, we don't delete accounts or posts here. If you don't want to be involved anymore, that's fine, but the account and post history will remain.

Yes seriously.

Don't make a spectacle and create a topic to ask to get deleted. Just go away if you don't want to be on here.

Jerry, I am guessing there is a mechanism in place to lock banned accounts. Couldnt the same be done for voluntary bans as well?

Why do they need to lock an account for someone leaving when the person can just choose not to post? Unless someone has an addition or lack self control or discipline, not posting or lurking shouldn't be that difficult.

I think in the internet discussion forum world, asking a mod to delete your account is basically the same thing at having the final word in a debate.  You somehow feel like you stuck it to the man on your way out.  Its the final protest.  Thats how they feel anyway.  Big kids just have the discipline to be responsible for what they type, and if I dont like your forum anymore, I dont come back.  Asking a mod to delete your account really shows you need someone else to help you and make sure its not easy for you to come back and start up again.

One of life's lessons: The internet is forever.

The internet is forever, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't able to delete an account that I made. There was no massage saying 'once you join CAPTalk, there's no going back' unless I missed it. It's fine if the posts stay, but accounts should be able to be deleted if desired. That's not right in my opinion.

Well, that's the site's rules. If you don't like them, you don't have to post here.

My 9 step process for deleting your account:

1.  Go to the "Change Password" function
2.  Open "Notepad"
3.  Bash keys randomly
4.  Copy random key bashing
5.  Paste into "New Password" field and confirmation
6.  Save new password
7.  When browser asks "Would you like to save new password?" say "No"
8.  Close Notepad, if asked to "Save" say "No"
9.  Never return to site.

That's too much work, I'd just skip to 9...

Here's how, but I don't think you would want to do it this way:

So, to be clear, if I go on a bender of posting long crazy rants ... ?
You guys won't delete it all for me when I sober up?
Noted.

Well, if Im not mistaken you can actually go back and delete posts.  But its pretty bad form.

Actually you can't. And editing to just a period doesn't make the mods happy either...
