The 2018 Far East Winter Encampment is tentatively planned for 15-22 December at Camp Humphreys and Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea. More details will be forthcoming. This encampment is primarily for cadets at Korea, Japan, and Okinawa but it is open to any member who wants to make the journey.

Oh dear. Not sure what I'd feel like seeing the modern-day Cp Humphreys. :)

Need seniors?  I'll go for a space-A flight.

As CAP or retired mil?  If you are looking at going as CAP you need to start the legwork now on all of the approvals.

Nah, I'm like the Wolf in Pulp Fiction, I just show up and crush problems.

I don't even know how space A as a CAP member works, especially since I'm not a retiree and the rotator isn't a military aircraft.

If you are trying to hop on the rotator out of Seattle good luck that flight gets booked quick and it's considered a military flight.  And there are some steps that have to be taken for CAP to fly on mil aircraft outside of o-flights.

New towels would be nice.

Or at least fancy coffee.

Camp Humphreys today is a whole different world and gets more impressive each day. It's still not Seoul but it's not bad. I won't comment on the weather in December though because I'm not trying to scare people away from our encampment...

I wouldn't worry too much about that. We have people who willingly go to Alaska Wing Winter Encampments!

Yeahhhh....  I recall a snowball fight out in front of our barracks about a week before Christmas.

(It wasn't the snowball fight itself, it was that the sewer line for the barracks building was close to the surface and at one point I hit the ground, and apparently I cracked it open. I hadn't worn my N3B parka but about 3-4 times the whole time I was in Korea (3 years), and now its got, uh, ahem, "stuff" on it. 2 days before I'm supposed to clear unit supply..)

Rotten luck.

I have quite a bit of experience with Space Available flights to Korea and I don't recommend them for anybody who plans to attend the encampment. The dates for the encampment are not flexible and the flights are not reliable. It isn't cheap to fly to Korea but it is worth it. Once in a lifetime opportunity.

Space A used to be a fairly reliable way to travel back when the MAC Channel system was in place. Not anymore.

Flights from the east coast to Inchon run about $1500 r/t

Covers "...all transportation?" You might want to clarify that before some cadet in Pennsylvania thinks he's going to Korea for $175.

Might want to check with JA and SFS about unaccompanied minors as well.  Plus there is the DBIDS issue.

jb3

Good advice. We are good with both. The process is not automatic but we have recent practice with both the Army and Air Force systems so personnel access to the bases shouldn't be an issue.
