Since an all-inclusive "Deputy Commander" doesn't really exist below group level I suppose I should say that I hold both CDS/CDC positions.
"Deputy Commander" exists in both senior and cadet squadrons, just not composite squadrons.

Sure it does.  It is in eServices > Duty Assignment > Assign Duty Position > enter capid or name > Functional Area dropdown box > Command Section > Duty Position in dropdown box > Deputy Commander.

Preferably show me that in CAPR 20-1, not a drop down menu in eServices. :)

All you have to do is look at Figs 12, 14, 16, and 17 in R 20-1.

Nick

My point is that "Deputy Commander" is not an authorized position for composite squadrons.  Senior and cadet squadrons?  Yes.  In composite squadrons, the positions are Deputy Commander for Seniors and Deputy Commander for Cadets.

Major Lord

Your regulatory Gung fu is very powerful!

Major Lord
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

No where do I see that the Deputy Commander position isn't authorized for composite squadrons. CAPR20-1 does list the position under Senior Squadrons (because there is no need for a seperate Deputy Commander for Cadets) and it lists it under Cadet Squadrons (because there is no need for a seperate Deputy Commander for Seniors).

If there was some reason to disallow the Deputy Commander position in composite squadrons then there should specifically be seperate cadet / senior positions at the group level also since they have membership that is mixed. The group organizational charts list a single Deputy Commander.

Also, page 27 of CAPR 20-1 specifies:

NOTE: The duties above also apply to the deputy squadron commander. Squadron commanders should develop a detailed position description for their deputy, outlining his/her specific duties and responsibilities in support of the overall squadron mission.

This text is almost identical to the text which accompanies the Group Commander position and implies that the squadron commander is in charge of what tasks a deputy commander is to fulfill, what authority is delegated and any limitations placed on that deputy. I see it as a simplified way of denoting deputy commander for cadets and seniors. I'll drop an email to NHQ for a clarification as to whether the position is authorized.

You're right, 20-1 does say that.  I just think there was an explicit motive behind why you see a deputy commander square on the senior and cadet squadron charts and there's not even a mention of one (not even a dashed line block for optional positions) on the composite squadron chart... that's all.

Every composite squadron in my wing has a deputy commander named -- I've always assumed that it was the deputy commander for seniors since I know that is who the person was in my squadron.
