So, any digital photo buffs out there?

For months now I have been vasilating over which new camera to get.
Today my new Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT arrived.

Haven't had the chance to do anything with it yet, as the battery is in the charger.

But I am jazzed to have what appears to be such a nice high resolution camera in my hands...

that's a GREAT camera.  I've got the 10D, the next step for me would be the 1D Mark II, but that's a little bit more than I can afford right now. :-D

I use it for weddings and such.  www.whatevah.com/composite.jpg

my best advice: Read the manual.  :-D   That's the first thing I do when I get a new camera.  I can't remember if the Rebel XT has custom functions or not, but check the manual for them... they are extra settings to help you out with some stuff.

As for shooting settings, you'll probably want to add a little extra sharpening and saturation to the images in the camera to give the more "punch".  You'll get beautiful pics even if you use the "Normal" compression instead of "Fine".  Plus, it saves a lot of space on the memory cards.  I carry 1.5GB of memory with me. I don't use RAW, so I don't need tons of memory. I'll probably pick up another 1GB card, though.

Mostly i bought the camera to take photos of the boats we build.
The lighting here in the desert can be a bear and the other cameras I have just don't do much justice under the circumstances.
So i was hoping this would fill the bill a bit better.

Wanted to get one of the new Canon 20D.
But I could not justify the cost of it, no matter how nice it might be.

Everything I have heard about the XT has been good, and the price was right for the functionality, so I took the plundge.

As for the manual, the darn thing is ponderous!

The battery light is GREEN now, so its time to plug it in and see what happens!!

I have a really nice digital camera!  Canon Powershot A70  ::)

It works though, and I can take about forty-five minutes of video with my memory card.

THe fact that it WORKS is by far and away the MOST important thing!!

Trying to buy a 2GB Flash Card for the monster.

Just got the new camera in the mail.

WOW...

What a peice of gear this thing is.
With a resolution of 3456 x 2304 the photos are simply STUNNING.

I have a 24inch Sony GDM monitor that pumps out some very respectable numbers, and they still look just gorgious!

So far I am just delighted with this camera.

Awesome!  I am jealous of both your camera and your monitor!  ;)

Can't wait to see some of your handi-work in our photos section.  I'm sure that you'll be able to capture some great shots with that camera!

I will be taking it Monday night to shoot photos of all the cadets to upload for their ES cards.

Would love to shoot some video of them in formation so all of them can see what they look like from the front.

AZ Balloon Pilot

Hi!

I also have a 10D, got it back in December.  I used it this weekend and was going to post some CAP pics, but the Airplane area wouldn't let me. Can you fix? Or tell me what I'm doing wrong!

I have lots of pics of our cadets, airplanes, the CAP balloons I fly, encampment etc..

well, goto http://captalk.net/photos/upload.php

pick the files to upload (since you only one post, you can only add a total of 1MB worth of pics, so keep them small), and click on Continue.  Now, you can choose where to place the pics on the site.

edit: it works now

Well then, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!
Always nice to have someone new here.

Hope you find this place just as valuable and usefull as I have.

And at some point it would be fun to get some of our cadets up in your balloon if that is a possibility..
