Maj. Ronald Yarnell
Des Moines Composite Squadron
Iowa Wing

Ronald Yarnell
was born June 26, 1960 in Amityville, New York, to Irma (Geist) and Thelburn Yarnell. He attended school in Lindenhurst, on Long Island, and received a BA in History from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York. Following God's call to ministry, he attended Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Katharine in 1992, and served his pastoral internship at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. His first call was to Faith Lutheran Church in Osborne, Kansas, where he was ordained in 1995. In 2002, he received his Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

Ron then served many multi-point interim ministry positions throughout Iowa, starting in 2005. He served Lutheran, Presbyterian, and United Methodist congregations. He was thankful for his many friends, and had a wide variety of interests. He loved music and served on the board of the Celtic Music Association. He enjoyed "geekster" culture with the Iowa Comic Book Club. He was a novice of the Order of Lutheran Franciscans, and served the Des Moines Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, as major, earning the Crisis Service ribbon.

The joy of his life was his daughter Madeline.

Ron died on Monday, April 17, 2023, of congestive heart failure. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Victoria. He is survived by his wife Katharine and daughter Madeline.

He leaves behind many beloved friends, parishioners, colleagues, and fellow comic book, and music enthusiasts.
