Linwood Barkley, age 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 16, 2023 at his home. He was born in Wilson County on June 23, 1934 to Ernest and Nina Williams Barkley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Barkley; sisters, Jackie Moore and Kathy Parrish; granddaughter, Vickie Lynn Barkley; brother-in-law, James Moore; nephew, Gary Moore; and great-grandson, Hunter Robinson.

Mr. Barkley was a proud veteran having served honorably in the United States Air Force. He later volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol and enjoyed being being a part of a Total Force partner and auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. The Civil Air Patrol is there to search for and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster and work to keep the homeland safe. Its 56,000 members selflessly devote their time, energy, and expertise toward the well-being of their communities, while also promoting aviation and related fields through aerospace/STEM education and helping shape future leaders through CAP's cadet program. Mr. Barkley was a well respected member who dedicated forty plus years of his life to his community through this important program.

As a much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend, he will be deeply missed by family and friends, including his devoted wife of 70 years, Jewel Barkley; children, Tony Barkley and wife, Andrea of Red Oak and Christie Wolfe of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Cale Owens of Rocky Mount, Jared Barkley of Warrenton and Devin Barkley and wife, Courtney of Nashville; great-grandsons, Sam Barkley and Gage Robinson; brother-in-law, Wayne Parrish of Florida along with many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
