Greetings,

I'm sure you've already seen the announcement for the upcoming Civic
Leadership Academy.

As a reminder, this is an outstanding National Special Activity that occurs
"off-cycle."  Instead of being a summer activity, it runs from 24 February
through 3 March 2007.  Only 24 cadets will be selected to attend, but the
cadets will have an incredible opportunity to see the inner workings of our
government.  For 2007, we are scheduled to return to State Department for
special "CAP-only" briefings and tours, including the Middle East Bureau
and the Iraq desk.  We'll also return to the CIA headquarters in Langley
for additional exclusive briefings and tours unavailable to the public.
New for this year will be unprecedented access to the FBI facilities in and
about Washington DC.  And of course, we will visit our members of Congress
and experience the Supreme Court in session.

It bears repeating that this is an "off-cycle" application process and the
applications and supporting materials are due to National HQ by 15 October,
which is less than 3 weeks away! Applicants must be Mitchell cadets who
are 16 years old ( by 24 February).  Applicants must include a 1 page
resume and a typed 250-350 word essay.  See the NHQ CLA website for full
details.

Here's what I'd like you to do:

1.  Help spread the word!  Time is short.

2.  Personally encourage outstanding cadets to apply.  It just
takes a few phone calls and follow-up emails.

3.  Remind commanders that the CLA application cycle is upon us.

4.  Remember to put some thought and effort into the essay.
Good, competitive essays are structurally sound, free of serious grammar
and spelling errors, and express well-supported and original thoughts.

I hope to see many of you there!

Sure are.

I am particularly looking for a Legislative Advocacy instructor with some credentials/horsepower who could also serve as a faculty advisor/TAC officer and reside with us during the course.  Preferably female.

We are also looking for local help in the DC area to help with some of the many, but sometimes routine tasks in running an activity like this.  Van drivers, runners, local guides, etc.

Thanks for asking.
