How do you get into the national cadet competition? (Or even the color guard competition)

Generally, to be able to participate in NCC a cadet must be a member of a drill team or color guard that wins one of the region cadet competitions. Usually to win region, the team would have also won the wing competition. I am not sure if your wing also has group competitions, but if it does, the team would need to win it before going to wing.

I see you are in NY Wing. Your Wing usually has a strong Drill Team for Region and National Competition, so there is a Wing level competition each year. Teams for the competition come from indivdual squadrons, not just cadets applying to take part. Check with your chain of command to see if your Squadron can start a team for the Wing Competition. Chances are you won't win the first year, but you get to see how the competion works and can get ready for the 2nd year.

Give up most of your weekends and some weeknights starting ... now. With 3/4 or 12/13 others depending on Drill Team or Color Guard, whichever is your goal.

What to study? Color Guard? Phase I and II are fair game, and for Drill Team, all of it. The written test can be on lots of stuff, the panel quiz is on your AE modules. Other things are covered in CAPR 52-4, <-- Clicky ..

Would you consider it challengeing to get there?
