Title: Membership Applications
Post by: Dutchboy on February 14, 2009, 10:52:05 AM
After Membership has been approved to a full member from a Temp status, Can The Social Security # on the application be blacked out. Or is there even a requirement to have a copy of the application in the personnel folder at all?

CAP R 39-2, section b, para 1-7 requires a copy of the initial application for membership to be placed in the personnel folder.  Because the personnel files have sensitive info (SSN for one), they should always be secured.   I know my file has copies of the MSAs for several encampments which also has the SSN for all members in the wing that attended.  I don't think there would be a problem blacking out the SSN on the application, but just to be safe, I'd check with your legal officer.
