That would be Squadron Officer School (http://www.maxwell.af.mil/au/afiadl/curriculum/catalog/html/sosnr00.htm).

I'm thinking about taking it... Have to complete level II and make Capt first though IIRC.

Honestly, I would recommend Region Staff College instead.  I'm not sure where you're from, but the Northeast Region school is said to be one of the best professional development opportunities out there for CAPers.  The Middle East Region school has also gotten high marks.

If at all possible, you should choose the school over boring correspondence courses.

I couldn't arrange the time off from work with my then employer to attend the CAP sponsored Region Staff College.  Either way I recommend that you take either or both if you have the time.

Step 1 - TURN OFF your CAPS lock key.

Step 2 - Copy the AFIADL Form 23? from the CAPR 50-17.

Step 3 - Fill it out - You have to be at least a Capt (not C/Capt) to take it. Course number is 00028.

Step 4 - Have your commander sign it

Step 5 - Fax to AFIADL. Number is on the form

Step 6 - When you get the post card saying you've been enrolled, go to the AFIADL website and follow the directions on the Squadron Officer School (SOS) (http://soc.maxwell.af.mil/sos/socadl/index.htm) webpage. You'll probably be enrolled as a non-DEERS and may need to use their help desk to get a login name and password.

The only thing you get is a postcard. Everything else is online. You can download and print it out, if you wish.

I've just started SOS myself. It seems RMR has decided we don't need an RSC this year.

IIRC, this info is current:

Maxwell AFB AL 36112-6337
Fax number: DSN 493-8127 or Comm 334-953-8127

Most everything you will need can be found via this page (http://level2.cap.gov/index.cfm?nodeID=5895).

Beyond the personal growth issue, is this required for any CAP level?

No. But it is a substitute for RSC for Level IV.

Thanks, that's what I meant.  I have heard the RSC's are excellent, though frankly I don't have much interest today in the cluster.

I llike the idea of retiring with the oak leaves.  Unless things change in CAP, the Lt. Col. designation is more an anchor than a wing.

(unless there's a spot on the National Board for me).   :D

This goes out to the Officers that have taken the "on-line" SOS course...
I appreciate all the advise.  I have sent my application in...got a card
back saying I'm accepted.  My next problem is getting started.  The SOS
web-site, to me, is not too "user-friendly".
Can anyone push me in the right direction to even get started??? The system
says I'm not "in it" ....They e-mailed back to me to give them my CAP ID... which
I did.... How long can I expect all this "back-and-forth" to go on before I can
get going on the actual course.... that year and half time is burning up...
Thanks for any advise...

That's too bad.  RMR had the best location!  But then I've always been a sucker for C-Springs.  I just can't seem to get stationed there. :(

I heard RMR and SWR are alternating RSC due to lack of a full enrollment in either region. This year it is being hosted by SWR and next year it will be back in CO Spgs.
