Title: Looking for a Female Service Cap
Post by: xray328 on February 01, 2018, 03:13:59 AM
Hey guys, does anyone have a source for a female service cap? I couldn't find anything here and I'm coming up empty in my online searches other than AAFES.  Thanks in advance.

I can't find any, either.  Is there maybe a member of your Squadron who could order one from AAFES for you?

Per CAPM 39-1, Dated 26 June 2014
6.2. Headgear
6.2.1. Men's Service Cap (Wheel Cap). Will only be worn with the service dress and service uniforms by officers, NCOs and cadet officers. Cadet NCOs and Airmen are not authorized to wear the service cap (see exception under Honor Guard). Female officers and NCOs and Cadet officers are authorized to wear the men's service cap. For placement of appropriate clouds, darts and cap insignia, see Figure A5-8.

They are going to be VERY hard to come by since it hasn't been a required uniform item for USAF females in at least 10-15 years.  Neither has the male service cap but there were already a ton of them out there and today it looks like most females wear the male version.

Also, neither service cap is worn by USAF personnel except for very rare occasions.  Even at most ceremonies (awards, change of command, etc) they are not worn.  In the 5 years that I have been in CAP, whenever I see someone wearing the service cap 95% of the time it is a CAP cadet, 4% it is a CAP SM, and 1% is is a USAF member.  I am also a SNCO in the Air Force assigned to a MAJCOM and I just never see it worn by USAF.

I know the cadets love it for some reason so to each his own.

Also, it is $47.95 if you are close to a military base (I would call first as they don't usually stock many for males or females) or know someone who can order from AAFES online.

Thanks, she's wanted this since her first encampment.  I was hoping she'd forget...that was 2 1/2 years ago.

Once she realizes how much of a PITA the Service Cap is to wear, she'll stop wearing it.
Have seen this happen only about 100+ times or so...

Best I could find for you:

http://www.uniforms-4u.com/c-air-force-hats-1060.aspx

I don't think you're going to find a new one anywhere. Plenty of used ones for sale simply google "US Air Force female Dress Uniform Hat".

Thanks but the hat I'm looking for isn't in the link you provided and also not in that google search.

Those are the only USAF Hats currently in production anywhere, sorry.

Good luck with your search.

Something to briefly add to this thread:

http://www.thecoverbag.com/ (http://www.thecoverbag.com/)

I got one for my bus driver hat with farts and darts to keep the schmutz off.
