Title: Safety Briefing vs Safety Class
Post by: 0 on August 08, 2007, 05:00:08 PM
Just wondering how other units handle the safety requirments.  In our unit what I've done is to start doing a once a term safety class in adition to the monthly safety briefings.  What I try and do is have the 3 briefings proceding the class have one common element.  Then in the safety class I tie them together and give the members a broader overview then I give them a miniproject to demonstrate the point.

Mini-project?

Could you give an example?

Well my first "module" was all about emergency prepardiness.

Briefing 1 - What to do in a Tornado
Briefing 2 - What to do in case of Flood
Briefing 3 - I actually forget this one off-hand
Safety Class - Emergency Kits

I had discussed emergency kits briefly in the briefings but wen into greater detail in the class.  Then I put a list of items on the board and had the cadets make an emergency kit from that list given the conditions I had cited.  They also had to tell me why they chose each item and what prupose it would serve.  They even put some in the kit I myself would have been skeptical about but made fair points as to why it would/could be needed.
