Lt Col Edward Myzie
Raritan Valley Composite Squadron
New Jersey Wing

It is with great sadness we report the passing of Edward Myzie, 64, on the morning of September 11 at his home.

He attended Plainfield High School and obtained his Engineering degree from Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) in 1975. He resided in Piscataway for over 34 years with his wife, Amy and sons, Jonathan and Gregory. Employed for 37 years by the New Jersey Department of Transportation building roads and bridges, he retired as a Supervising Engineer. He later became a consultant for Amercom Corporation, supervising construction projects for the NJ DOT and making new and dear friends. Edward joined the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet Member in 1969. He transitioned to Senior Member in 1975, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and achieving the Gill Robb Wilson Award. In his 49 years of membership, Lt Col Myzie served as Raritan Valley Composite Squadron Commander, Finance Officer, Communications Officer, trusted confidant and friend. Along the way, he obtained his private pilot certificate and participated as an aircrew member of the winning team of the 1986 National Search and Rescue Competition held at Whiteman Air Force Base, MO. Most recently, Lt Col Myzie was named the 2016 New Jersey Wing, Northeast Region and the CAP National Communicator of the Year. He was also a Boy Scout, having joined with his sons, and continued to serve long after his sons had completed the program, becoming Eagle Scouts. Ed earned the prestigious Wood Badge and served as Assistant Scout Master, Rank Advancement Chair and Eagle Scout Mentor for Troop 67 until his passing. Ed's most cherished days were spent fishing, hunting, camping and skiing with his wife and sons. He was always known as the go-to-man in Civil Air Patrol and Scouting alike.

Lt Col Myzie is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Lt Col Amy Myzie, their two sons, daughters-in-law and two grandsons.
