As a borderline weight case for wearing the AF uniform I decided to really do something about my physical condition.  We don't enforce PT on senior members but expect it of the cadets.  I decided that even as I retire from the .mil I am going to stay where I can pass the APFT for my age as I am expecting cadets to do their PT.  To that end I am starting week 1 on the program at http://hundredpushups.com/  Who is with me?

I have always been able to out-PT a lot of cadets, and I'd join you and all, but I've got my own program.  I mostly do cardio and only do upper body stuff to improve my push-ups when a PT test is on the horizon.

Back surgery last year, shoulder surgery in the near future, a bum ankle from my Army daze days...yeah, I joined the Air National Guard for a reason.

Cool beans.  I have other workouts I do too but this has helped a couple of my buddies.  I really slacked off after my re-deployment in 06.  I retire after April 08 and just need to put a brake on things before I really sink.

It can be rought, I know.  10 years ago when I came back from a 9 month deployment to Bosnia (Army Infantry), I fell into a depression and in one year put on 30 lbs.  After almost dying on the APFT (still passed but had to be taped), I made a huge change.  A year later, exactly one year, I took the APFT and scored an even 300, plus I lost those 30+ lbs.

Now, my excuse are young children.  But I still PT 5 days a week, but it's a bigger challenge to keep the love handles off so I just accept them.  ;D

Army life is hard on the body.  Had knee surgery and may need more down the line.

No worries.  I am kinda ashamed of mine.  I am 38 and should be good for 35-40 at least.  I decided to post this here because I need some peer pressure to make sure I do this.

I might take a look at participating in this.  I'm 50 years old and my days of doing pushups are quite far behind me, but since I've lost this weight (53 pounds and counting since September 26th) I need to do something to firm up the saggy-skin areas.

I just swam survived a 15 min. swim yesterday. Pushups and some cardio might be a good thing!

I started swimming pretty hard again 1 year ago after about an 8 year break from seriously swimming back when I was in the Marines.  I could barely swim 100 yards without stopping and gasping for air.
Now, I swim 3500-4000 yards Every Mon Wed and Fri.  So keep it up if you can.  Look for a masters swim club near you and JOIN.

Looks like we are gaining some momentum.  I will post my results as we go.

OK I guess I'm in. Not sure about push ups, wouldn't sit ups work on the stomach muscles better?

I have lost around 35 lbs over the last 18 months, still more to lose.

Abs get a bit of a workout during situps because they help keep the back straight. Try doing a situp with your back straight, no curling - the back muscles get the workout then. The two groups pair very well in exercises.

Okay!  I'm in!  Good luck everyone.

Well, I'm almost 55, had neck surgery last year, looking down the barrel of a hip replacement (both from the same parachute incident 20 years ago) but I need to do something.  I'm going to give it a whirl.  I have a phenomenal gym at work and I need to use it.

If I can take the wubby of, I'll be able to wear the USAF-style stuff again.
