Signature jpg frustration

I've tried readfing posts on the topic and still not getting anywhere. Please help. Step-by-step please.
I uploaded a new sig line pic to flickr but can't get it to appear on my signature block.

Now that you've gotten that to work, you need to edit the pic as a .GIF, and make the background transparent.

Tried it - looked like crap. Also, that's someone else's graphic, not hosted by me, so I don't have a choice.

Still doesn't solve the appearance issue. I just didn't look good after fiddling with it.
