Hello,
Besides E-Bay, with which I never have good luck, does anyone know where to find the official nomex sage green suits for decent money?

thanks!

In the past, I have ordered from:

Oscodapete's Collectibles
http://www.auctiva.com/stores/viewstore2.aspx?id=49219&page=home

and have been most satisfied with the clothing, prices and customer service!

Plus; name patch, command patch, American flag, and squadron or other specialty patch.

Boots and flight cap too I suppose.

Squadron or unit patches may be worn if approved by your wing.

Actually not, a wing patch is the lowest level of unit patch allowed. Even a Region commander cannot approve a supplement that changes what can be worn on the flight suit.

Ok, so , real quick....

Does the AF Style Flightsuit HAVE to be NOMEX?? I found one online that is alot cheaper. It looks just like the ones I see the other pilots in, but the seller tells me it is battle rip style material with teflon woven in. Is that ok?? Its like half the price new!

thanks

It's fine if you want to be shrink wrapped in a fire.

Seriously, If it's not nomex, don't waste your money.

Yeah, we've been here before.

Nomex is not required in most wings, and most likely if you lawn dart a CAP plane, fire is the least of your worries.

The $35 CAP jumpsuit works just as well.

Which is exactly what I have: the blue CAP utility jumpsuit, and blue MA-1 Rothco flight jacket.

It's not like we are riding rockets full of jet fuel.

Auger in a 172 and you'll be lucky if you survive the impact long enough to be burnt by any fire.

Note: AF flight cap not allowed with this uniform.

The flight suit sizes are based on the standard 38, 40, 42,  44 .. numbers.

Then they are short, regular and long.

Go on eBay, put in CWU 27 and go shopping.

Anywhere from $19 to $59 for new, never issued even, buy-it-now.

I've never paid for than $40 for one including delivery.

Green ones are pretty easy to find on eBay. The blue ones are not. It took five tries to get one in my price range.

Thanks for the advice! Actually found one, in my size (wow!) brand new in the bag...well, according to the E-Bay listing! It was only 80.00....not bad!

So, now I have another question...I am starting MS training, and should be quickly moving through MO eventually. I am also a rated pilot, hoping to be a VFR pilot and then someday a Mission Pilot. So, can I get one of those leather name patches with "MISSION SCANNER" on it, and not the wings while I "train" or, can I get it with just my name and rank? And then at some point I will get it with wings.

Thanks!

If you get Form 5'ed you can slap some CAP pilot wings on there. I would not put MISSION SCANNER on there until you actually have the qualification. Same for the observer wings.

Smoothice

Good idea. So would it be wrong to have it completely blank except for name/rank while training?

Nope.

That is exactly what it should look like if you don't have any applicable ratings.

Just your name, with grade and CAP underneath.

The Vanguard site was updated sometime in the last 3 to 5 months (before the major site overhaul...) to include the proper options for No Rating, Name Only, etc.

I know, because I just got mine and it looks perfect!

NB: I feel a little funny praising Vanguard for ANYTHING, but they seem to have gotten this correct, so credit where it is due.

Saw this and thought it might be of help.  This appears to be the company with the contract to provide flight suits to DoD.

Those are all new suits, and the price isn't too bad for new but it could still be better. There are loads of "gently used" ones out there for a third to quarter the price.

It also doesn't have to come from a DoD contractor, but it should be at least mil spec.

All depends on how much (or little) money you want to spend, and how hard you want to look for it.

$159 - the best price I have seen for new flight suits.

Propper quality is very good.

True for the sage green one, but here's what the Knowledge Base says regarding the blue variants (as of Jan 2010):
QuoteMembers do have the option on wearing one additional authorized patch of the member's choice on the right shoulder of the Blue Flight Suit and Blue Flight Jacket and the CAP Blue Utility Uniform. For a list of the optional shoulder patches which may be worn see CAPM 39-1 Table 6-4. Wear of Badges, Patches, and Devices on Flight Suits, BDUs, Utility Uniforms and Field Uniforms.

I've submitted a Knowledge Base question asking if the omission of organizational patches from the sage green flight suit was intentional.
