Title: ABU Gortex Pants
Post by: CAPed Crusader on November 27, 2019, 10:29:10 PM
Hello,
Anyone have an extra set of ABU Gortex pants? I'm financially struggling, and very low on money, just enough for groceries, (probably shouldn't be saying I'm financially struggling on social media, but I'm desparate).

If you are willing to help me, THANK YOU! Just dm me on CapTalk.

Why do you want them? You can't wear them.

Aren't we switching to ABU? I thought they could be worn with them? I could be mistaken. If so, thank you for pointing it out.

Only the Gore-Tex parka may be worn; not the Gore-Tex pants.

For the shirt and pants, they need to be either 50-50 cotton/nylon blend or 100% cotton.

9.5. Wear of Items Required for Emergency Services or Safe Operations. Items required to be worn by
the various Task Guides as published by NHQ/DO are authorized to be worn with the USAF-style and
Corporate-style utility and flight uniforms....
Ground and Urban Direction Finding Team Tasks (G&UDFTG) states

3. To avoid cold weather injuries.
a. Cover all extremities by using gloves, wool socks and a knit hat or hood over your ears.
b. Use the layer principle -- several loose layers of clothing keep a person warmer than one bulky item
of clothing. The multiple layers trap warm air pockets, which help maintain a uniform body temperature. As
you exert yourself and begin heating up, remove layers as needed. Put them back on as you cool down. Layers
can include underwear, socks, thermal underwear, sweater or sweatshirt, uniform, field jacket liner, field jacket,
knit hat, glove liners and gloves.
c. Choose clothing that will trap air pockets yet allow moisture to pass through. Wool, polypropylene
and Gore-Tex are good fabric choices that remain warm when wet. Rubber or vinyl coats are extremely bad, as
they hold the body's moisture in.
d. Avoid getting wet, especially your feet. Stay out of streams and muddy places.
Wing commanders and their designated activity directors have the authority to interpret the uniform manual. It would not be unreasonable to interpret the passage in the G&UDFTG to mean that the Gore-Tex pants can  be worn to keep the member dry and prevent cold injuries.

So if I have this right, udf abd gtm can wear them. I'm certified in both. If anyone is willing to help out, and has extra, please dm me.

So guess you can wear gortex pants with your regular uniform pants, not in lieu of. That doesn't sound comfortable...

If you ever have to work outside in a cold wet environment for a long period of time, you will want the Gortex over-pants.

For us more seasoned personnel, we can remember the old olive drab rain suits... same concept. Pull them on and go play in the rain or roll around in the snow.

They stop the wind so even when it's not wet outside they're just what you need to keep warm.

When do you want to wear them? Like in what situation?

When?

When we get the storms forecasted. In NYC we are told  it has started snowing, and will turn to sleet later.

If the conditions are bad enough on a meeting night that you need to wear Gore-Tex overpants to
get from your car to the front door, stay home.
