Altha Louise Ditch of Montalba, TX passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Col. Robert A. Ditch (Ret.), parents, Eugene Slack and Elizabeth Finnegan Littell of Opelousas, LA, sister and husband, Mary and Bryant Waldrop of New Orleans, LA and son-in-law, Frank J. Wasinger of Omaha, NE.
She is survived by her children: Robert and Annie Ditch, Barbara Anderson Wasinger, Mary and Lee Thomas, Jane and John Meyer, Anne and Jeff Lee and Patty and Gary Oliphant; sister-in-law and brother in-law, Mary and Gerald Cain. Altha had 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren (and one on the way), and three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Altha was born August 4, 1930 in Opelousas, LA. She was very active all of her life. In High School Altha was a cheerleader, played the drums in the band and also played on the basketball team. She also enjoyed playing tennis, which she took up after raising her kids.
She was the best mom and wife ever. She was her husband's caretaker for over 40 years as "Bob" became blind after retirement. Altha never complained. She was extremely giving, an Angel on earth, and a bit of a Ninja, towards the end. Being a military spouse, she was well traveled and could pack and unpack a household in a New York minute. She hated driving interstates, so we always said she would circle the block before she landed.
Mom loved going to church most of all. She loved all the nuns and priests along the way. She also loved making quilts for friends and family. Mom was such a role model to everyone she met. She really loved all the dogs, past and present that she cared for throughout the years.
