1st Lt. John Stone

Members of NCWG,

It is with great sadness that I pass along that our Communications Directorate was contacted by the sister of 1st Lt. John Stone (Long Leaf 48) of NC-048 last evening notifying us that John passed away on December 24. 

1st Lt. Stone had been selected as the 2019 Communicator of the Year by Wing staff and was heavily involved in the Group, Wing, and Region nets.  This award will be received by his sister MaryAnn at the NCWG conference.  1st Lt Stone came to us with strong skills in communications and quickly adapted to CAP communications.  He supported communications during Hurricanes Florence and Dorian as well as the 2018 Encampment.  He also participated in numerous DoD COMEXs and Wing and Group SAREXs. 

One member recently stated that John had single-handedly kept the Group II nets alive and that he generously shared his Comms skills with many Wing members through his ever-patient Comms training and cheerful willingness to fix equipment.   

Please keep his sister, MaryAnn, and family in your prayers.   The family is holding a private service for 1st Lt. Stone.

John will be missed by all who knew him.
